After a few leaks and teasers, Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus is now finally official in China. Xiaomi has already made his market with some low-end devices successfully. Apart from that, it’s 18:9 bezel-less display, metal body, rounded corners and fingerprint sensor on the back with MIUI 9 inside makes this device complete with all major requirements. We all expect that it will launch in India soon as Redmi 4 is already hitting its sale.
The Chinese smartphone maker kicked off the event thanking the Indian fans for their support in helping its brand to reach the top in the country. The Indian market has been one of the biggest reason for the Xiaomi’s budget smartphones with Redmi 4A and Redmi Note 4. With the launch of new bezel-less series, it will look continue its success.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Specifications
It sports a beautiful 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440p) display with 18:9 bezel-less display, of course, it’s a most trending feature of 2017. Both the devices were almost symmetrical design with camera and fingerprint perfectly aligned on the back as well as microSD port on the bottom with two speaker grills on either side and headphone jack can be found on the top.
It is powered by 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. This phone will be available in a choice of 2GBÂ + 16GB and 3GBÂ + 32GB configuration. It runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. It is launched after the Android 8.0 Oreo so it should get the update for the next Android soon. It is packed in 3300mAh battery, which promises up to 12 days standby time.
In optics, Redmi 5 includes a 12MP rear camera with flash and a 5MP front camera with beautify 3.0 and soft-toned selfie light for better selfies in low-light. Xiaomi worked a lot to its camera and we all have seen in Xiaomi Mi A1, its camera is great in every kind of photography.

As it is a plus model, so it should be larger and better than Redmi 5. It should also have a narrow bezel than the Redmi 5 and better performance. It sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ (1080x2160p) display with 18:9 aspect ratio bezel-less display. It is powered by 2.0GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU.This device will come in a two-choice 3GB and 4GB of RAM with 32GB and 64GB internal storage, respectively.
In optics, Redmi 5 Plus is same as the Redmi 5 without any minor upgrades. It bears a 12MP rear camera and 5MP front camera with beautify 3.0 and soft-toned selfie light for better selfies in low light. It runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. It is packed in a 4000mAh battery which promises up to 17 days of standby time.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus pricing
In terms of pricing, Xiaomi Redmi 5 starts at CNY 799 (approx 7,800 INR) for the 2GB + 16GB variant and CNY 899 (approx 8,800 INR) for the 3GB + 32GB variant and will be available in Black, Blue, Gold and Pink colours. On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus starts at CNY 999 (approx 9,800 INR) for the 3GB + 32GB variant and CNY 1299 (approx 12,700) for the 4GB + 64GB variant and will be available in same colour as the Redmi 5. The pricing of these two smartphones makes clear that this is the cheapest smartphone in the market with the 18:9 bezel-less display. This smartphone is currently available only in China and the company didn’t make any announcement about its availability to the other countries including India.
